Dense fog brings down temperature in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: Dense fog conditions have led to a noticeable drop in temperature in Bhubaneswar, adding to winter discomfort and disrupting normal life in the city. On Thursday, the mercury dipped to around 20°C in the early hours, while readings at 11.30 am stood at 22°C, marking a sharp fall compared to temperatures recorded over the past week.
According to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar has witnessed a steady decline in daytime temperatures in recent days. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 24.4°C on December 28, which fell to 23.3°C on December 29. The cooling trend continued with temperatures dropping to 21.4°C on December 30 and 21.6°C on December 31, indicating the firm grip of winter weather.
The dense fog has not only lowered temperatures but also impacted air traffic at the Biju Patnaik International Airport. Poor visibility conditions forced the diversion of at least five flights, leaving several passengers stranded and causing delays in arrivals and departures.
The IMD has indicated that foggy conditions may persist over the next few days, and residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, especially during early morning hours, while travellers are urged to check flight schedules before heading to the airport.
