G Udayagiri shivers at 5.6°C, becomes coldest place in Odisha; residents reel under harsh cold wave
Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: The scenic hill town of G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district is battling an intense cold wave, with temperatures dipping to a freezing 5.6°C on Tuesday morning. This marks the lowest temperature recorded in Odisha this season, officially declaring G Udayagiri the coldest spot in the state. The sudden and sharp drop in temperature has severely disrupted daily life in the region.
With the bone-chilling cold gripping the area, residents are struggling to step outdoors, and normal activities have slowed down considerably. Daily wage labourers, who depend on early morning work, are finding it difficult to earn their livelihood. The elderly, children, and those without adequate winter clothing are among the worst affected.
As the situation grows more challenging, locals are urging the district administration to open night shelters and provide blankets for the homeless and economically weaker sections. Several social organisations and activists have also appealed for immediate relief measures to help people cope with the harsh conditions.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that the cold wave may intensify further in the coming days. Authorities are expected to ramp up preparedness and implement proactive steps to reduce the impact of the severe weather on vulnerable communities.
