CBI officially takes over Odisha SI recruitment scam probe
Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday officially took charge of the high-profile Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam, marking a major development in the ongoing investigation.
According to sources, a team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)-rank officer has been constituted to conduct an in-depth probe into the case. The CBI has already registered a formal case and sought all related documents and evidence from the Odisha Crime Branch, which had earlier been handling the investigation. The Crime Branch has assured full cooperation and will provide any additional inputs or materials required by the central agency.
The Central Government had approved the CBI investigation earlier this week, following a recommendation by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The CM had cited the involvement of an inter-state organised racket operating across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal as the key reason for seeking the CBI’s intervention.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Sagar Kumar Gouda (22), a close aide of prime accused Shankar Prusty, from Berhampur in connection with the scam, further tightening the noose around the culprits.
