Cold wave intensifies in Odisha as temperatures dip sharply across several districts
Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: Odisha continues to reel under an intense winter chill, with temperatures dropping steadily over the past few days. According to the Regional Meteorological Department, the cold conditions have tightened their grip, bringing the mercury below 10°C in at least four locations across the state.
Semiliguda recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 7.1°C, emerging as the coldest place in Odisha. Close behind, G. Udayagiri reported 7.4°C, Daringbadi 7.5°C, and Phulbani 8.5°C. Overall, nine cities recorded temperatures below 12°C in the last 24 hours, marking a widespread fall in night temperatures.
Jharsuguda registered 10.9°C, while Rourkela recorded 11.1°C. Chipilima and Kirei saw temperatures of 11.2°C and 11.5°C respectively. Bhawanipatna also felt the chill at 11.5°C, and Angul recorded a minimum of 12°C. The cold spell has reached the Twin Cities as well, with Bhubaneswar dropping to 14.1°C and Cuttack to 14.6°C.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the mercury is likely to remain at similar levels for the next three days. Along with the dip in temperatures, dense fog has been reported in parts of Kalahandi and Sundargarh, affecting early morning visibility. Officials warn that the cold conditions may intensify further as the week progresses.
