Cold wave tightens grip over Odisha; Daringbadi records 7.5°C
Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: A severe cold wave has swept across Odisha, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures and chilly conditions in most parts of the state. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), 21 locations recorded temperatures below 15°C, with Daringbadi in Kandhamal district—often referred to as the “Kashmir of Odisha”—recording the lowest at 7.5°C, followed closely by G. Udayagiri at 7.6°C.
The IMD stated that night temperatures are currently 3°C to 6°C below normal in several districts due to the dominance of dry northwesterly winds. The cold wave conditions are likely to persist for the next three days, with temperatures expected to rise slightly thereafter by 3–4°C.
Other cold spots included Phulbani (10°C), Rourkela (10.5°C), Jharsuguda (10.6°C), and Chipilima (10.9°C). Kirei in Sundargarh (11.3°C), Keonjhar (12.4°C), Angul (12.6°C), and Koraput (13.2°C) also reported chilly nights.
Meanwhile, Jharsuguda recorded a temperature 6°C below normal, while Angul was 5.2°C below normal. Major cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Titlagarh also felt the chill, with temperatures 3–4°C below the seasonal average. The weather is expected to remain dry with no major changes in cold wave intensity.
