Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: In a tragic incident, a woman home guard posted at Chandrasekharpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar allegedly ended her life by consuming poison late on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sujata Kar, who was immediately rushed to Capital Hospital after she was found in an unconscious state. She was later shifted to a private hospital for advanced treatment, where doctors pronounced her dead during the night.

According to family members, Sujata had been battling severe mental distress following the death of her husband seven months ago. Since then, she had been suffering from depression and sleep disorders, and had reportedly attempted to take her life on several occasions.

Sujata was the sole breadwinner of her family and is survived by her elderly mother-in-law, a daughter, and a son diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Her sudden demise has left the family devastated.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death, and her body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. The incident has highlighted the growing concern over mental health issues among police personnel and their families.
