Cold wave grips Odisha as temperature drops sharply; IMD predicts further dip in coming days
Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Winter has made its presence felt across Odisha, with the minimum temperature dropping by 2 to 6 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state over the last 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the cold wave conditions are likely to intensify further, with another 2 to 4-degree decline expected over the next two days.
According to the IMD report, Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 12.5°C, followed by Daringibadi, often called the “Kashmir of Odisha,” at 14°C. In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the minimum temperatures were recorded at 17°C and 17.6°C respectively.
Notably, Bhubaneswar has witnessed a consistent fall in night temperature since November 1, plunging from 25°C to 17°C within five days — a sharp drop of 8 degrees. Similar trends have been reported from Jharsuguda, Angul, Rourkela, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal, where residents are experiencing noticeably cooler mornings.
Meteorologists predict that the mercury will continue to dip, marking the onset of chilly winter mornings across Odisha, prompting residents to bring out their woollens early this year.
