Suspected Bangladeshis evicted in Jagatsinghpur; administration begins high-level probe
Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The Jagatsinghpur district administration on Monday demolished several houses at Beheram Basti under Sadar police limits, after identifying the occupants as suspected Bangladeshi nationals illegally residing on government land. The demolition drive was carried out under tight security in the presence of the magistrate and sub-collector, marking a strong administrative action against illegal encroachments.
Officials stated that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness. A multi-layered investigation is underway to determine how the group entered the area, who facilitated their stay, and whether they are connected to any organised crime networks. The administration is also examining whether the group was part of a larger, coordinated illegal settlement.
District Collector assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in harbouring the group or aiding their activities. He further confirmed that all illegal constructions on government land will be cleared, with a special team formed to oversee the eviction operations. The sub-collector will lead the process wherever required.
Tensions escalated on Sunday night when police raided the Beheram slum following a tip-off about the suspected Bangladeshis. The raid triggered a clash between locals and police, injuring three personnel.
