Bhubaneswar, Sep 21: Around 250 residential students of Bisipur Ashram School in Udala reportedly left their hostel and walked nearly eight kilometres on Monday in protest against the alleged lack of basic facilities on the campus.

The students alleged that they had been facing severe problems for more than two months, including the absence of drinking water and electricity. They also claimed that insect-infested rice was being served at the hostel.

The hostel reportedly accommodates around 100 boys and 150 girls. According to the students, they had repeatedly raised their concerns with the hostel in-charge, matron and headmaster. However, they alleged that their grievances were not addressed and that they were sometimes reprimanded for raising the issues.

Frustrated over the continued problems, the students left the campus and began walking towards the offices of the Block Development Officer and Education Officer to seek administrative intervention. They were reportedly heading towards the District Collector’s office when officials intercepted them near Khunta Chowk.

The students were subsequently taken to the Khunta Block office, where their grievances were discussed in the presence of the Kaptipada Sub-Collector, Project Administrator of ITDA and Block Development Officer.

During the meeting, the students reiterated their concerns regarding food quality, drinking water, electricity and other basic amenities. They demanded immediate steps to resolve the problems and ensure proper living conditions at the residential school.

Officials are expected to examine the allegations and take appropriate action based on the findings.
