Bhubaneswar shivers at 12.9°C — coldest November night in 25 years
Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: Bhubaneswar woke up to an unusually chilly morning as the city recorded a minimum temperature of 12.9°C, marking its coldest November night in the past 25 years. This rare drop surpassed the previous low of 13.5°C registered in 2009, making today’s temperature the lowest since the year 2000.
Over the last few days, the capital has witnessed a steady decline in night temperatures. According to data, Bhubaneswar recorded 14.8°C on November 14, 15°C on November 15, 13°C on November 16, and finally dipped further to 12.9°C on November 17. The consistent fall reflects a strong cold wave gripping the region much earlier than usual.
The chill, however, is not confined to the capital alone. Several districts across Odisha are experiencing even harsher conditions, with temperatures falling below 12°C. G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded the state’s lowest temperature at a freezing 5.4°C, followed by Phulbani at 8°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the cold wave will persist for the next few days, particularly affecting northern, interior, and hilly districts. The IMD has advised citizens—especially children, senior citizens, and individuals with chronic health issues—to take adequate precautions to stay warm as winter conditions intensify across the state.
