Odisha youth abducted by rebels in war-torn Sudan; family seeks government intervention
Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: A youth from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district has reportedly been abducted by armed rebels in war-torn Sudan, triggering deep concern among his family and local residents. The victim, identified as Adarsha Behera from Kotakana village under Tirtol police limits, had been working in Sudan for the past three years.
According to sources, Behera was employed in Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur State — one of the worst-affected regions in Sudan’s ongoing civil conflict between the national army and paramilitary groups.
The company he worked for had recently suspended its operations due to escalating violence. However, about a week ago, Behera was reportedly called to the office for routine work, during which he was abducted by armed rebels believed to be linked to one of the Darfur factions.
His family members claimed that the abductors sent a video and an audio clip in Hindi, purportedly recorded under duress, showing Behera in captivity. In the message, he pleads for help, saying he will be released only through humanitarian or government efforts. His family has appealed to the Odisha government and the Ministry of External Affairs to take urgent steps for his safe release.
