Bhubaneswar, Nov 3: In a heartbreaking incident, three minor children lost their lives after accidentally falling into a septic tank at Ragadipada village under Badamba block in Cuttack district on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Shubham Nayak (3), Ankit Nayak (9), and Shibani Nayak (7) — all belonging to Ichhapur and Badaberana villages under the jurisdiction of the Badamba Police Station.

According to local sources, the children had gone to visit their maternal uncle’s home when the tragic accident occurred. While playing near the house, they reportedly slipped and fell into an open or partially covered septic tank.

Upon realizing what had happened, family members and locals rushed to rescue the children and immediately took them to the Badamba Community Health Centre (CHC). Unfortunately, despite their desperate efforts, the doctors at the CHC declared all three children brought dead.

After being informed, Badamba police arrived at the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Athagarh SDPO Biswajit Mohanty confirmed the tragic occurrence, stating that “a detailed inquiry is underway” to determine how the septic tank was left accessible and whether negligence was involved.
