Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended Tanuja Mohanty, an officer of the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the ongoing bye-election to the 71-Nuapada Assembly Constituency.
According to the official notification, the suspension has been issued under Rule 12(1)(a) of the Orissa Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962), pending disciplinary proceedings. The order specifies that Smt. Mohanty, OIS-II, will be stationed at the State Headquarters in Bhubaneswar during the suspension period and will not be permitted to leave the headquarters without prior approval from the competent authority.
She has also been directed to report daily to the Director (Technical) of the I&PR Department. During her suspension, she will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per the provisions of the Odisha Service Code.
The Election Commission took the action after reports surfaced suggesting that Mohanty had allegedly breached election-related conduct norms during the bye-poll process, prompting immediate administrative action.
