Body of missing Chinese sailor recovered from Paradip Port waters

Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: The body of a Chinese sailor who went missing after falling into the sea at Paradip Port was recovered on Sunday, bringing a tragic end to a massive search operation. The deceased has been identified as Zhang Tai, a crew member of a cargo vessel docked at the Paradip International Cargo Terminal (PICT).
According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when Tai accidentally slipped and fell into the water while helping set up a ladder as the ship prepared to depart after unloading cargo. Another crew member who fell during the same mishap was successfully rescued, but Tai could not be traced despite immediate efforts.
Following the incident, a joint rescue operation was launched involving the Indian Coast Guard, NDRF, ODRAF, state marine police, CISF, and professional scuba divers. Teams scoured the waters extensively through the night. On Sunday, police finally retrieved Tai’s body after it was spotted floating near the terminal.
Authorities have informed the Chinese Embassy and necessary formalities are being completed. The incident has cast a shadow over Paradip Port operations, with officials emphasizing stricter safety measures for dock workers and crew.
