Low-pressure system weakens over north Chhattisgarh, IMD issues rainfall alerts for Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sept 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday informed that the well-marked low-pressure area over north Odisha and its neighbourhood has now weakened into a low-pressure system over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining regions.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, the system has moved in a west-northwestward direction and is expected to further progress across East Madhya Pradesh within the next 24 hours. While weakening, the system is still capable of triggering significant rainfall activity in parts of Odisha and neighbouring states.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
A yellow warning has also been sounded for several other districts, including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Sundargarh, Balasore, and Kendrapara, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected.
The IMD has urged residents to remain cautious, as heavy downpour may cause waterlogging, disruption in transport, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
