Odisha to reel under sweltering heat and humidity till May 14, yellow alert issued

Bhubaneswar, May 9: Odisha is currently experiencing intense hot and humid weather, and the situation is expected to persist until May 14, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The regional weather office has issued a yellow alert for several districts, urging residents and travellers to remain cautious over the next six days.
On May 9 and 10, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, and Jajpur. From May 11 onwards, heatwave conditions are expected to emerge in western Odisha. Districts such as Jharsuguda, Boudh, Balangir, and Sambalpur are likely to witness heatwave conditions on May 11. Simultaneously, hot and humid weather is predicted for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, and Jajpur.
The heatwave will intensify further on May 12 and 13, affecting districts like Jharsuguda, Boudh, Bolangir, Sundargarh, and Sambalpur. During this period, hot and humid conditions are also expected to continue across eastern and coastal districts, including Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and others.
On May 14, the heatwave is likely to spread to more districts, including Nayagarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Angul, along with the ongoing affected western belts. The coastal and adjoining districts are expected to continue experiencing hot and humid weather, raising concerns about health risks and heat-related illnesses. Authorities have advised people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions.
