Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: Odisha witnessed extremely heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours, with Mayurbhanj district emerging as the worst-affected area as several locations recorded more than 200 mm of rain.

According to data released by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Bangiriposhi in Mayurbhanj recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 309.2 mm. Sarasakana received 297.0 mm, followed by Jamsolaghat with 285.2 mm and Chandanpur with 259.0 mm.

Several other locations in the district also received heavy rainfall, including Bijatala (140 mm), Bahalda (125 mm), Jamda (113 mm), Kusumi (104 mm), Nawana (99.8 mm), Chandua (94 mm) and Baripada (73.6 mm).

In Sundargarh, Banaigarh recorded 81 mm and Lahunipara 75.6 mm, while Kantamal in Boudh received 66 mm. The IMD said four stations recorded extremely heavy rainfall, two recorded very heavy rainfall and eight recorded heavy rainfall during the period.

District-wise, Mayurbhanj recorded an average of 88.1 mm, showing a 1,158 per cent large excess. Sundargarh received 36.9 mm, 350 per cent above normal, while Baleshwar recorded 16.5 mm, an 81 per cent excess.

Across Odisha, average rainfall stood at 13.7 mm, against the normal 7.8 mm, marking a 74 per cent departure.

Meanwhile, Jagatsinghpur recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.4°C, while Boudh recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 19°C.
