SCB data entry operator arrested over alleged Rs 1.40 crore financial irregularity
Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: A data entry operator working at the office of the Superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack was arrested on Friday for his alleged involvement in a financial irregularity amounting to Rs 1.40 crore.
The accused, identified as Dinesh Rout, a native of Rajkanika in Kendrapara district, was arrested by Mangalabag Police following a complaint lodged by the SCB Superintendent. Rout was reportedly residing in the Mangalabag area of Cuttack.
According to police, the accused was handling salary-related data and other work concerning employees of the medical college and hospital. During an audit, discrepancies and alleged manipulation in the salary data were detected. The audit report reportedly indicated that the tampering had resulted in a financial irregularity of around Rs 1.40 crore.
Cuttack DCP said the Superintendent lodged a formal complaint after the audit findings came to light, following which police launched an investigation and arrested Rout.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused allegedly diverted portions of employees’ salaries to his own bank account by manipulating salary records. Police are now examining his bank accounts and transactions and are also investigating whether the allegedly embezzled money was used to acquire movable or immovable property.
The accused is expected to be produced before a court, with police likely to seek his remand for further interrogation. His service records and bank statements are also being scrutinised as part of the investigation.
