NAYAGARH, AUGUST 28, 2026: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday released the fifth instalment of the state government’s flagship SUBHADRA Yojana, providing financial assistance to more than one crore women across Odisha.

The latest instalment, amounting to over ₹5,160 crore, was transferred directly into the bank accounts of 1,03,26,162 women beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The payment was released during a state-level programme held at Lathipada in Nayagarh district on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima.

Under the latest disbursement, each eligible beneficiary received ₹5,000. Officials said that more than 2.21 lakh women received assistance for the first time under the scheme.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the importance of SUBHADRA Yojana in strengthening the financial position of women and promoting greater economic independence. He said the scheme reflects the state government’s commitment to women’s welfare and empowerment.

The Chief Minister also connected the release of the instalment with Rakhi Purnima, describing the occasion as a symbol of the special bond between brothers and sisters. The government’s decision to release the financial assistance on the festival was aimed at adding significance to the occasion for millions of women beneficiaries.

Several senior leaders and dignitaries attended the programme, including Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida. Government officials and banking authorities also worked to ensure the smooth transfer of funds to beneficiaries across the state.

SUBHADRA Yojana was launched by the Odisha government in 2024 as a major women-focused welfare initiative. Under the scheme, eligible women are entitled to receive ₹10,000 every year, generally paid in two instalments of ₹5,000 each. The assistance is intended to provide women with greater financial support and encourage them to become more economically self-reliant.

The fifth instalment represents another significant step in the implementation of the scheme. The government has maintained that direct financial assistance can help women meet household requirements, support small economic activities and strengthen their role in family-level financial decisions.

Authorities have also been working to identify eligible women who may have missed previous instalments because of verification or other procedural issues. Such beneficiaries may receive pending payments after completing the necessary verification and meeting the eligibility requirements.

The large-scale transfer on Friday comes as a major financial boost for women beneficiaries across Odisha. With more than one crore women receiving the latest instalment, SUBHADRA Yojana continues to remain one of the state government’s most prominent welfare programmes.

The Odisha government has reiterated that women’s empowerment will remain a key priority and that initiatives such as SUBHADRA are intended to provide sustained financial support while encouraging greater participation of women in economic and social development.

The latest disbursement is therefore being viewed as an important milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to strengthen women’s financial security and promote inclusive development across Odisha.
