Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: The cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has further intensified, raising the possibility of heavy rainfall across Odisha over the next few days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system, which formed on Thursday, has become more marked and now extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. The circulation is tilting southwards with height and remains active over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal.

Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over the same region on August 29. The developing system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to several parts of Odisha in the coming days.

The IMD has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall in more than half of the districts today. An Orange Warning has been issued for Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely.

A Yellow Warning has also been issued for 19 districts for thunderstorms and rainfall. The weather department has forecast adverse weather conditions across the state on August 29 and 30. On August 31, extremely heavy rainfall is likely in parts of western Odisha, prompting authorities to remain alert.
