Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: The unrest at Ravenshaw University over the alleged teacher-MLA spat and the transfer of a warden continued to escalate on Friday, with the Ravenshaw University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) launching a mass leave agitation.

The teachers began their protest at 10 AM and staged a dharna in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, which is scheduled to continue till 5 PM. The agitation has added to the growing tension on the historic campus amid ongoing differences over several issues.

According to RUTA, the decision to resort to mass leave was taken after the Vice-Chancellor allegedly failed to issue a clarification regarding alleged external interference on the university campus. The association also claimed that no action had been taken on its demands and that the Vice-Chancellor had declined to meet its delegation.

RUTA spokesperson Professor Netaji Abhinandan said the association had expected a response from the university authorities on the issues raised by the teachers. However, with no clarification or decision forthcoming, the association decided to intensify its protest.

The developments have raised concerns over the prevailing situation at the university, as teachers and authorities remain locked in the standoff. Further discussions are expected to determine the course of the agitation.
