IMD forecasts thunderstorms and gusty winds across parts of Odisha for five days
Bhubaneswar, July 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds over parts of Odisha for the next five days, beginning July 8. The weather office has advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert and take necessary precautions during the period.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, no weather warning has been issued for any district in Odisha for Day 1, which is valid up to 8.30 am on July 8. However, thunderstorm activity is expected to intensify from the following day.
For the period between 8.30 am on July 8 and 8.30 am on July 9, a Yellow Warning has been issued for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places.
The weather conditions are expected to continue on July 9 and July 10, with Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj remaining under a Yellow Warning. The IMD has cautioned that lightning strikes and sudden wind gusts could pose risks to people working outdoors.
On July 11, the warning area is expected to shrink, with only Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
The IMD has urged residents to avoid open fields during thunderstorms, take shelter in safe locations, and closely follow official weather advisories to minimise the risk from lightning and strong winds.
