IMD forecasts fresh spell of heavy rain in western Odisha; orange alert issued for eight districts
Bhubaneswar, July 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of heavy rainfall across western Odisha over the next two days, prompting the issuance of an Orange Warning for eight districts on July 7.
According to the IMD's midday weather bulletin, isolated places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Subarnapur (Sonepur) and Nuapada districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday. The weather office has cautioned that intense showers could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic disruptions and localized flooding.
The IMD has also issued a Yellow Warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected.
The weather department said the intensity of rainfall is likely to decrease from July 8. On Wednesday, only Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts are expected to remain under a Yellow Warning for isolated heavy rainfall, indicating an overall improvement in weather conditions across the State.
In view of the forecast, the IMD has advised district administrations in the Orange Warning districts to remain on alert and closely monitor vulnerable and low-lying areas. Residents have also been urged to stay updated with official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
