Man hacked to death in Bhubaneswar; police suspect extramarital affair behind murder
Bhubaneswar, June 20: A man was allegedly hacked to death with a sharp weapon in Bhubaneswar on Saturday in a shocking incident that police believe may have been triggered by a dispute over an alleged extramarital relationship. The murder took place at Sri Sai Vihar in the Gadakana area under the jurisdiction of Chandrasekharpur Police Station, sending shockwaves through the locality.
According to preliminary investigations, the deceased was suspected of having an illicit relationship with the wife of the accused. Police said the issue had reportedly led to a long-standing feud between the two men, which ultimately culminated in the fatal attack.
Sources said tensions escalated on Saturday morning when the accused allegedly confronted the victim and attacked him with a cleaver. The victim sustained grievous injuries during the assault and collapsed on the spot. Hearing cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene and immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital.
However, doctors declared the victim dead on arrival. The brutal nature of the attack created panic among residents and drew a large crowd to the area.
After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The accused was arrested shortly after the crime, and the weapon allegedly used in the murder was seized by investigators.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police officials said they are investigating all aspects of the case, including the motive behind the murder and whether any other person was involved.
