IMD forecasts thunderstorms across Odisha till June 23, orange warning issued for several districts
Bhubaneswar, June 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued thunderstorm activity across Odisha over the next few days, accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall in some districts. The weather office has issued Orange and Yellow Warnings for different parts of the state and advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
According to the latest forecast, widespread thunderstorm activity is expected on June 21 and June 22, with several districts likely to experience strong winds and heavy rain. An Orange Warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph are likely at isolated places.
Many other districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh, are expected to witness thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph under a Yellow Warning.
The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on June 21. On June 22, heavy rain is likely over parts of Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.
For June 23, the weather office has issued a Yellow Warning across large parts of the state. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely in coastal, northern and central districts, while southern and western districts may experience winds of 30-40 kmph.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorm activity, avoid taking shelter under trees, and remain away from water bodies and electrical installations during lightning events. Authorities have urged residents to closely monitor weather updates and follow safety advisories as unstable weather conditions continue across Odisha.
