Tusker found dead in Balangir cashew orchard
Bhubaneswar, April 30: The carcass of a tusker was discovered in a cashew orchard at Chanutmala village under Muribahal Range in Balangir district, triggering concern among locals and forest officials.
According to reports, the orchard owner spotted the carcass early in the morning and immediately alerted the Forest Department. A team of officials soon reached the spot and began a detailed investigation to determine the cause of death. The carcass has been secured, and further examination is underway.
Villagers in the area said a rogue elephant had been frequently roaming nearby for the past several days, damaging crops and creating panic. The presence of the animal had already heightened tension among residents, who feared for their safety and livelihoods.
This incident marks the second death of a tusker in the region within the last four months. A similar case had been reported in the same area earlier, raising serious concerns about wildlife safety and possible underlying threats in the habitat.
Forest officials have launched a thorough probe, and experts are expected to conduct a post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Authorities have also intensified monitoring in the region to prevent further such incidents and ensure better protection of wildlife.
