IMD issues orange, yellow alerts for thunderstorms and hail across Odisha till April 11
Bhubaneswar, April 7: The India Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hail across several districts of Odisha from April 8 to April 11, 2026, urging residents to remain cautious.
As per the IMD’s midday bulletin, on April 8, orange warnings have been issued for districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, and Angul, where thunderstorms with lightning, winds of 50–60 kmph, and hail are likely. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is also expected in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. Yellow warnings have been sounded for Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Deogarh, with winds of 40–50 kmph expected.
On April 9, orange alerts remain in effect for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur, while several other districts, including Puri, Ganjam, and Sambalpur, are under yellow warning. Moderate thunderstorms with winds of 30–40 kmph are likely in interior districts.
For April 10 and 11, yellow warnings continue across coastal and southern regions. The IMD has advised people to avoid outdoor activities during afternoon and evening hours and take precautions against lightning, hail, and strong winds.
