Odisha MPs take oath in Odia in Rajya Sabha
Bhubaneswar, April 6: Three newly elected members of the Rajya Sabha from Odisha took oath in the Upper House today, marking a proud moment as they chose to speak in their mother tongue, Odia. The members—Manmohan Samal, Dilip Kumar Ray, and Santrupt Misra—affirmed their commitment in Odia, reflecting the growing emphasis on regional languages in national forums.
However, the fourth newly elected member, Sujeet Kumar, did not take the oath on the day. The reason for his absence from the ceremony remains unclear.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan at the Parliament House. Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present during the proceedings, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
The elections for four Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha were held on March 16, 2026. In the polls, Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar secured victory as BJP candidates, while Dilip Kumar Ray won as an Independent backed by the BJP. Santrupt Misra was elected as the representative of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
