Bhubaneswar, April 6: In a heartbreaking incident, an elderly man lost his life after being struck by lightning while on his way to distribute wedding invitation cards for his son’s marriage in Sambalpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Biplab Behera, a native of Baghiapada village in Boudh district. His younger brother, Balram Behera, sustained severe injuries in the same incident and is currently battling for his life in critical condition.

According to reports, Biplab’s son, Sujit, is scheduled to get married on April 25 in Gahirapali village under Jujumura area. In preparation for the ceremony, Biplab and Balram were travelling by motorcycle from Boudh to Gahirapali to deliver wedding invitations when lightning suddenly struck them.

The impact proved fatal for Biplab, who died on the spot, while Balram suffered serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The tragic incident has plunged the family into deep grief, turning what was meant to be a time of celebration into mourning. With the wedding just weeks away, the sudden loss has left relatives and villagers in shock and sorrow.
