Shyam Metallics plant sealed in Sambalpur over pollution violations
Bhubaneswar, April 6: In a strict enforcement action, the district administration in Sambalpur has sealed the Shyam Metallics factory located in the Rengali area, following directives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The move comes after serious allegations of environmental violations against the company, including air and water pollution. Reports also suggested that the plant had been illegally creating ash mounds and encroaching upon nearby water bodies, raising significant ecological concerns.
The CPCB had earlier issued a closure order on March 30, citing non-compliance with environmental norms. Despite the warning, the company reportedly failed to undertake corrective measures within the stipulated time.
Acting on the directive, officials from the district administration and CPCB conducted a joint operation on Monday morning. In the presence of security personnel, the factory’s main gate was locked, and the entire plant was sealed. However, limited office-related activities have been allowed to continue under strict supervision.
Employees engaged in administrative work are permitted entry and exit only upon verification of identity cards. The duration of the sealing order remains uncertain, as no official clarification has been issued by either the company or authorities so far.
