Choudwar jail escapee arrested in Rishikesh, two of three fugitives nabbed
Bhubaneswar, April 2: In a major breakthrough, a special team of the Commissionerate Police has arrested a prisoner who had escaped from Choudwar jail, tracking him down to Rishikesh. The arrest marks significant progress in the case that had raised serious concerns over prison security.
Confirming the development, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said the accused, identified as Sahani, was hiding in disguise to evade detection. He has been taken into custody and is being brought back to Odisha on transit remand for further legal proceedings.
With this arrest, police have now apprehended two of the three inmates who had escaped from the high-security facility. Earlier, co-accused Madhukant Rana was arrested from Vrindavan.
The daring escape took place on Dussehra when the inmates allegedly cut through the jail grill and fled, triggering widespread criticism over lapses in security arrangements. Authorities are now conducting a detailed investigation into the incident, including the possibility of inside assistance.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining fugitive, while security measures in prisons are under review.
