Bhubaneswar, Mar 13: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a woman in the Aiginia area under Khandagiri Police Station in Bhubaneswar on Friday. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the victim dead on the spot.

According to initial reports, the woman had stepped out of her house to buy vegetables from a nearby market when the mishap occurred. While she was walking along the roadside, a speeding vehicle suddenly hit her. The impact was so severe that the vehicle reportedly ran over her head, leading to her instant death.

Eyewitnesses said the accident happened within seconds, leaving bystanders shocked and helpless. Despite the presence of a few people in the area, there was little anyone could do as the woman died instantly due to the severe injuries.

After receiving information about the incident, police from Khandagiri Police Station rushed to the spot and began an investigation. The body was recovered and later sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said efforts are underway to identify the deceased woman. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the vehicle involved and identify the driver responsible for the fatal hit-and-run.
