Belpada Primary School reopens after 34 days following student’s tragic death
Bhubaneswar, Mar 9: Belpada Primary School in Gania block of Nayagarh district reopened on Monday, 34 days after the tragic death of a Class V student, Bolanath Nayak, whose body was discovered in a nearby abandoned well. The school had remained closed since February 3 following the shocking incident that triggered protests from the student’s family and local residents.
District Collector Madhumita Rath and Additional Superintendent of Police Subas Panda were present during the reopening of the school to ensure a peaceful atmosphere. To maintain law and order, the administration deployed two platoons of police personnel around the school premises.
The family of the deceased student, along with villagers, had been staging protests demanding the arrest of two teachers who were suspended over allegations of negligence in connection with the boy’s death. The agitating family members had even blocked the District Collector’s office earlier, seeking justice and strict action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, students of Belpada Primary School are currently appearing for their examinations at Dadhivamana High School due to the prevailing tension.
According to reports, on February 3, Bolanath left the school around 1 pm after having his mid-day meal to relieve himself but never returned home. His body was found in an open well the following day.
