Sarpanch’s son found dead in pond in Kandhamal; murder alleged

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: In a tragic incident, the body of the Sankharkhol Panchayat sarpanch’s son was found floating in a pond near Sankarakhol village in Kandhamal district on Thursday afternoon, days after he was reported missing.

The deceased has been identified as Nityananda Pradhan, son of Sankharkhol Sarpanch Janaki Pradhan. According to family sources, Nityananda had been missing for the past four days. He reportedly went out for a morning walk on February 9 but did not return home, triggering concern among family members.

After conducting an extensive search in nearby areas without success, the family lodged a missing complaint at Tikabali Police Station. Despite initial efforts, police had found no clue regarding his whereabouts. The search took a grim turn when locals spotted a body floating in a village pond and immediately alerted authorities.

Police reached the spot along with family members, who identified the body as Nityananda’s. Meanwhile, his mother, Sarpanch Janaki Pradhan, has alleged that her son was murdered. Police have launched a detailed investigation, deploying sniffer dogs and a scientific team to ascertain the exact cause of death.
