One killed, 14 injured as tourist bus falls off bridge on NH-16 in Balasore
Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: A tragic road accident claimed one life and left 14 others seriously injured after a tourist bus crashed off a bridge on National Highway-16 at Khantapada in Balasore on Thursday.
According to reports, the bus was carrying more than 50 passengers and was en route from West Bengal to Andhra Pradesh when the mishap occurred. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver allegedly dozed off while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The bus then veered off the bridge, leading to the devastating accident.
The impact of the crash was severe. The driver was thrown off the bridge and died on the spot due to critical injuries. Fourteen passengers sustained serious injuries in the incident, while several others suffered minor bruises and shock.
All the injured were rescued by locals and emergency responders and rushed to Khantapada Community Health Centre for treatment. Medical teams are closely monitoring their condition.
Meanwhile, the damaged bus remains precariously hanging from the bridge, and authorities have initiated measures to safely remove the vehicle and restore normal traffic movement.
