President Droupadi Murmu performs rituals at Puri Jagannath Temple
Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: General darshan at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri was suspended till 10 am on Wednesday in view of President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the holy shrine. The temporary restriction was imposed to facilitate the smooth conduct of rituals and ensure security during the President’s temple visit.
According to reports, President Murmu arrived at the Jagannath Temple at around 7:40 am and entered the shrine through the Lion’s Gate, where she was warmly received by Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb. She offered prayers to the sibling deities—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra—inside the Garbhagriha and spent about 25 minutes in the temple between 7:45 am and 8:10 am. As per temple tradition, general darshan will resume after completion of the Gopal Ballav Bhog ritual at around 10 am.
After offering prayers, the President also performed the sacred pinda daan ritual at Swetaganga. She was accompanied by Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration honoured her with a khandua and a pattachitra.
The President is scheduled to leave Lok Bhawan at 9:15 am and proceed to Talabania Helipad to fly to Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district. Tight security arrangements were put in place in Puri, adhering strictly to Blue Book security protocols.
