Odisha to launch WhatsApp chatbot for revenue services, curb corruption
Bhubaneswar, Feb 4: In a major push towards digital governance and transparent public service delivery, the Odisha government is set to launch a WhatsApp chatbot under the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. The new initiative will enable citizens to apply for various certificates and access key revenue-related services online, reducing the need for physical visits to offices.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday said the department has extensively digitised its services to make them easily accessible to people from their homes. He noted that earlier, citizens visiting Revenue offices often complained of harassment and demands for illegal payments.
“To put an end to such practices, we have shifted most services to online platforms. The upcoming WhatsApp chatbot will further simplify access and ensure transparency,” the minister said.
Through the chatbot, citizens will be able to apply for caste, income and residence certificates, along with other revenue documents. The platform will also allow applicants to track the status of their applications in real time. In cases of undue delay, concerned officials will be asked to explain the reasons, and strict action will be taken if lapses are found.
Importantly, the chatbot will also provide a direct channel for reporting bribery. Minister Pujari said any complaint received through the system will reach him directly, assuring prompt and decisive action against erring officials.
