Crime Branch questions key eyewitness in FM College student Soumyashree Bisi’s death case

Bhubaneswar, July 18: The Crime Branch has intensified its investigation into the tragic death of FM College student Soumyashree Bisi by interrogating a crucial eyewitness, Jyotiprakash Biswal, who is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
A two-member Crime Branch team visited the Plastic Surgery Department and questioned Jyotiprakash for over an hour to piece together the sequence of events that led to Soumyashree’s shocking self-immolation attempt. Jyotiprakash, who tried to save her during the incident, sustained serious burn injuries to his face, hands, and lungs, and remains under intensive care.
Investigating officers also spoke to doctors overseeing his treatment to assess his health and collect insights into his capacity to provide further statements. His eyewitness account is considered vital in reconstructing the timeline and cause of the incident.
While Jyotiprakash has been lauded across the state for his bravery and humanity, the government's failure to extend timely medical and financial support has drawn criticism. His father, Sanatan Biswal, has appealed to the State government for immediate assistance to ensure his son receives proper care.
