Bhubaneswar, May 22: A 40-year-old woman, identified as Bhabini, was critically injured after being shot by her nephew during a violent family dispute in Rampalli village, under Kodala police station limits, late last night.

According to police sources, the accused, Suresh Pradhan, allegedly intended to shoot his uncle Sushant Raut over a long-standing family conflict. However, in a tragic turn of events, Bhabini was accidentally caught in the line of fire and sustained a gunshot wound.

Following the incident, she was immediately rushed to the Kodala Community Health Centre for preliminary treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where her condition remains critical.

Police have confirmed that the shooting was the result of escalating tensions between Suresh and his uncle. The accused fled the scene following the incident and is currently absconding.

“We have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused. All angles of the dispute are being investigated,” said a senior police official from Kodala. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
