Thunderstorms, gusty winds to lash odisha for next five days: IMD
Bhubaneswar, May 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across most parts of Odisha over the next five days, issuing yellow warnings from May 8 to May 12.
According to the forecast, strong thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places in districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, and Balangir on May 8. Moderate thunderstorms with winds of 30–40 kmph are also expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On May 9 and 10, severe thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in northern and coastal districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, and Gajapati, with gusty winds touching 50 kmph.
The IMD has further predicted widespread thunderstorm activity on May 11 and 12, affecting coastal, western, and southern Odisha districts. Areas including Sundargarh, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are expected to experience moderate to severe weather conditions.
The weather office has advised people to remain alert during afternoon and evening hours, avoid open spaces during lightning, and take necessary precautions against strong winds and heavy rain.
