Bay of Bengal cyclonic threat looms for early October

Bhubaneswar, Sep 22: A potential cyclonic storm could be brewing over the Bay of Bengal in the early days of October, according to some weather models. However, it's worth noting that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not yet issued any official predictions regarding this development.

Sources suggest that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the east-central Bay of Bengal around September 28. This system has the potential to intensify into a cyclone during the first week of October.

Jason Nicholls, an international meteorologist from AccuWeather, shared information about the possible cyclone in a tweet. Additionally, both the ECMWF and GFS weather models have also indicated the formation of a low-pressure system with the likelihood of it intensifying into a cyclone, moving towards the east coast of India.

Furthermore, in its two-week forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously mentioned the possibility of cyclone formation during the second week, specifically between September 29th and October 5th.

If this system does indeed intensify into a cyclone, it will be given the name 'Tej,' as suggested by India.

According to sources, the potential cyclonic storm could impact eastern India, particularly North Andhra and southern Odisha. Additionally, an increase in rainfall activity is expected on the west coast towards the end of September and the beginning of October.
