Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: A youth named Prashant Nayak, undergoing treatment at a rehabilitation center in the Jharpada area of Bhubaneswar, died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. While the management of the center claims he succumbed to a medical ailment, his family contends that he was murdered.

Prashant, a resident of Nayagarh district, had been receiving de-addiction treatment for the past six months. According to reports, he passed away early Thursday morning while still in care. His family alleges that he was beaten to death for failing to pay the rehab center's fees.

Prashant’s mother stated they had already deposited ₹2 lakh but were pressured to pay an additional ₹7,000. Unable to afford the extra charges, she requested his discharge, which was reportedly denied, and more money was demanded.

The rehab authorities later informed Prashant’s family that he had fallen unconscious and was rushed to Unit-6 Hospital. Upon arrival, they were told he had died en route. His family is now demanding justice, alleging that Prashant was violently treated due to financial disputes with the rehab center.
