PM Modi pledges free electricity up to 300 units if BJP wins Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 20: Taking a cue from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised on Monday to make electricity completely free for up to 300 units once the BJP forms the next government in Odisha.

Addressing a large election rally at Angul Stadium, Prime Minister Modi stated, "We promise to supply free electricity to the people if the BJP is voted to power in the Odisha Assembly." He elaborated that under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the BJP government would provide a Rs 75,000 subsidy to consumers for installing rooftop solar panels, eliminating the need to pay electricity bills for up to 300 units.

The Prime Minister also asserted that the BJD government in Odisha is nearing its end. Despite the state's rich mineral resources, its people are suffering, he noted.

"Who is responsible for the sorry state of affairs in Odisha? It is the BJD government, controlled by corrupt individuals. A few corrupt persons have taken over the Chief Minister’s office and residence. Even ordinary BJD workers have now become crorepatis," the Prime Minister remarked.

Criticizing the ruling BJD, Modi claimed that the state government has hindered people from benefiting from the state's mineral resources. "In 2014, Modi prepared a new mineral exploration policy, under which Odisha is receiving high royalty," he added.
