Fake Army uniform racket busted in Berhampur, police launch investigation

Berhampur, Feb 19: Acting on reliable intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Unit in Gopalpur, Odisha, the Berhampur police conducted a raid on Ganjam Galaxy Store, a cloth shop in Berhampur, seizing counterfeit Army combat uniforms.
A criminal case has been filed under Sections 420/486/63 of the Copyright Act, and investigations are underway. Rambabu Dangi, an individual associated with the Army AD College in Gopalpur, discovered the sale of fake new digital combat uniforms of the Indian Army at Ganjam Galaxy Store during a visit to Berhampur. He promptly reported the matter to the authorities.
In a collaborative effort between Military Intelligence and Berhampur police, 488 meters of combat uniform material valued at Rs 1,20,000 was confiscated during the joint raid. Further inquiries revealed that the owner of Ganjam Galaxy Store sourced the counterfeit material from Kolkata, which had been originally obtained from Ludhiana. Authorities are conducting thorough investigations to ascertain the manufacturing location and individuals involved in this illicit trade.
The new digital pattern combat uniform, introduced by the Army on January 15, 2022, is in the process of replacing the old uniform. The Army has secured Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for the design and camouflage patterns for a duration of 10 years, extendable for another five years. This measure aims to curb unauthorized production and sale of combat uniforms, thereby addressing significant security concerns posed to the Indian Army.
