Nandankanan's ropeway set to open today

Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The much-anticipated ropeway facility at Nandankanan Zoological Park is scheduled for inauguration today, with Pradip Kumar Amat, the Minister of Forest, Environment, and Climate Change leading the ceremony. However, enthusiasts will need to exercise patience as official rides on the aerial ropeway are slated to commence on Saturday, according to reliable sources.
Initially, the ropeway will feature four cabins for visitors, and an additional eight cabins are set to be incorporated later. Upon the installation of all 12 cabins, the ropeway will have the capacity to accommodate around 500 people every hour.
Commencing in October 2021, the project was a collaborative effort between Nandankanan Zoo and Damodar Ropeway Infra Limited (DRIL), a Kolkata-based company. The construction of the ropeway required an investment of approximately Rs 13 crore, with a strict operational readiness deadline of 18 months.
Spanning a distance of 626 meters from the zoo campus to the Botanical Garden, the ropeway will utilize a mono-cable pulsated with two towers. Each of the 12 cabins is designed to host three to six persons.
Originally introduced in 1994 to transport passengers from the zoo to the botanical garden, passing over the Kanjia lake, the ropeway has become one of the major attractions for zoo visitors.
