Nayagarh, Nov 9: a heart-wrenching incident, a mentally-challenged woman is fighting for her life after being brutally raped and assaulted in the Itamati locality of Odisha’s Nayagarh district last night.

According to reports, the tragic event unfolded in Baunsiapada village, within the jurisdiction of Itamati police. The victim was asleep on the verandah of a house when a youth named Panda, from the same village, allegedly raped her.

Subsequently, the accused, who was purportedly intoxicated, stabbed the woman with a knife and fled the scene. The victim’s family discovered her lying in a pool of blood and promptly rushed her to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Upon receiving the distressing news, the Itamati police swiftly arrived at the location to assess the situation. An investigation has been launched, and authorities are diligently working to apprehend the perpetrator.
