Bhubaneswar, Sep 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a new low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a depression and subsequently a deep depression over the coming days.

According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently prevailing over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region by the evening of September 19.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and gradually become more organised. It is likely to intensify into a depression by September 21 and further strengthen into a deep depression by September 22 over the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The weather system is then expected to continue its west-northwestward movement towards the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coast by September 23.

The IMD is closely monitoring the evolving system and has indicated that its development and movement will determine the intensity of weather conditions along the eastern coast.

Meanwhile, rainfall activity over Odisha is likely to increase from September 22 onwards under the influence of the system. The weather office is expected to issue further forecasts and warnings as the system develops and its track becomes clearer.

Residents, fishermen and local authorities in potentially affected areas have been advised to follow the latest updates and warnings issued by the IMD.
