Vikram Dev University postpones english exam after question paper circulates on WhatsApp
Bhubaneswar, Sep 19: The Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) English examination for Plus III second-semester students of Vikram Dev University, Jeypore, was postponed on Friday after a question paper was allegedly circulated on WhatsApp hours before the scheduled examination.
The compulsory English examination was scheduled from 2 pm to 5 pm at around 52 centres under the university. The authorities took the decision to defer the test after verifying that one of several question papers shown by students matched the original paper prepared for the examination.
University Controller of Examinations Ranjan Kumar Pradhan said some students approached him around 11 am and reported that AEC question papers were being circulated on WhatsApp. The students showed four to five papers, following which the university initiated verification. One of the papers was found to be identical to the original question paper, prompting officials to postpone the examination.
All examination centre superintendents were subsequently informed about the decision.
The university has lodged a complaint with the Koraput Cyber Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine how the question paper reached WhatsApp and whether the circulated document was obtained through unauthorised means.
Pradhan said the involvement of miscreants could not be ruled out, while the possibility that the circulation was intended to mislead students would also be examined.
The university has advised students not to rely on unverified WhatsApp messages or rumours and to follow official announcements. A fresh question paper will be prepared, and the revised examination date and timing will be notified separately.
