IMD issues red, orange alerts for Odisha till September 3
Bhubaneswar, Aug 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of rainfall and thunderstorm warnings for Odisha from August 30 to September 3, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts.
For August 30, a Red Warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Mayurbhanj, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places, with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. An Orange Warning has been issued for Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal and Kendujhar.
On August 31, the Red Warning will continue for Baleshwar, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj, while Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal remain under Orange Warning.
For September 1, an Orange Warning has been issued for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Nuapada. On September 2, Jharsuguda and Bargarh are under Orange Warning.
A Yellow Warning has also been issued for several districts on these days, including parts of western, northern and coastal Odisha.
The IMD has further forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 kmph across several districts during the period. For September 3, a Yellow Warning for heavy rainfall remains in force for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Nuapada and Balangir.
Authorities and residents have been advised to remain alert and follow weather advisories.
