Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for Odisha from August 2 to August 8, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and spells of heavy rainfall across several districts. The weather office has advised people, especially those living in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to remain cautious as active monsoon conditions are expected to persist over the next week.

According to the IMD's midday bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places in coastal and interior districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh on August 2.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Koraput on August 3, while similar conditions are expected to continue over parts of northern and southern Odisha on subsequent days. On August 4 and 5, heavy rainfall is likely over districts including Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kalahandi and Gajapati. On August 6, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

The weather agency has urged district administrations to remain prepared for localized waterlogging, lightning strikes and strong winds, while advising residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during thunderstorms and follow official weather advisories throughout the warning period.
